New York Fashion Week Day 5 – Spring 2014 Jewelry

A very busy Day 5 of New York Fashion Week was again fairly light on jewelry, but there were some interesting looks. Thakoon, who has been collaborating with Japanese pearl company Tasaki for a number of years, opted to combine purse and jewelry by making extra-long pearl necklaces with a small pouch attached. Sometimes it was wrapped around the neck, other times around the wrist. An interesting multi-tasking accessory.

Ralph Rucci added some serious punch to what were fairly minimalist looks with sparkling crystal knuckle rings on every finger. Not sure the Rucci lady would go for that, but it was a statement! Derek Lam opted to show jewelry with only one look and it was stacked black and gold bracelets. Edun showed some interesting African inspired black and white pieces that featured rough looking crystals.

I had a serious sense of déjà vu when I saw the Diane von Furstenburg show and a model walked out with a very big gold link bracelet. I’m pretty sure it is exactly the same bracelet that was seen at her Fall 2013 show, Resort 2014 show, as well as the fall ad campaign. It must be a favorite of the designer because she too wore it to take a bow and, of course, there is nothing wrong with this, (jewelry is far from disposable fashion), but it’s just so unusual to see that I had to point it out.

Called ‘My Pearl’, de Taillac has worked with the company on a few collections, with a focus on light-hearted pearl jewelry that includes her signature of colorful semi-precious stones. The clasps on the necklaces are magnetic so that you can buy two and change the length! The pieces are available now at de Taillac’s new NYC shop and at Tasaki stores in Japan. Thakoon Tasaki Ear Cuffs F

Thakoon for Tasaki Ear Cuffs  – Fall 2013

On Sunday, one of the coolest pieces of jewelry seen at NYFW so far were the ear cuffs at Thakoon. The designer has collaborated with Tasaki, a Japanese pearl company, since 2009 but this was the first time it was seen on the runway. They come in diamonds, pearls, yellow sapphires, hauynite and alexandrite.

I also really liked this cagey cuff at Catherine Malandrio. A nicely subtle amount of edge…
