A very busy Day 5 of New York Fashion Week was again fairly light on jewelry, but there were some interesting looks. Thakoon, who has been collaborating with Japanese pearl company Tasaki for a number of years, opted to combine purse and jewelry by making extra-long pearl necklaces with a small pouch attached. Sometimes it was wrapped around the neck, other times around the wrist. An interesting multi-tasking accessory.
Ralph Rucci added some serious punch to what were fairly minimalist looks with sparkling crystal knuckle rings on every finger. Not sure the Rucci lady would go for that, but it was a statement! Derek Lam opted to show jewelry with only one look and it was stacked black and gold bracelets. Edun showed some interesting African inspired black and white pieces that featured rough looking crystals.
I had a serious sense of déjà vu when I saw the Diane von Furstenburg show and a model walked out with a very big gold link bracelet. I’m pretty sure it is exactly the same bracelet that was seen at her Fall 2013 show, Resort 2014 show, as well as the fall ad campaign. It must be a favorite of the designer because she too wore it to take a bow and, of course, there is nothing wrong with this, (jewelry is far from disposable fashion), but it’s just so unusual to see that I had to point it out.
