2013 Oscars Jewelry

Diamonds, diamonds and more diamonds.

At the 2013 Oscars, the proliferation of colorless diamonds was definitely noticeable. There were only two big necklaces, one of which was on Jennifer Gardner who wore Neil Lane and Helen Hunt in a graphic Martin Katz that shimmered beautifully as she walked the red carpet.

Major bracelets were the order of the day with Jessica Chastain and Charlize Theron in Harry Winston, Amy Adams in Mouawad, Reese Witherspoon in Louis Vuitton, Queen Latifah in Ritani and Naomi Watts in Neil Lane.

Jennifer Lawrence once again wore Chopard diamond jewelry on the red carpet and wore a simple diamond-accented chain down the back of her dress for a very glamorous look.

Lawrence wasn’t the only one wearing her necklace backwards. Anne Hathaway apparently chose her Prada dress a few hours before the red carpet, and accented it with a Tiffany & Co. necklace from the 2013 Blue Book Collection as well as other Tiffany jewelry. She too wore it draped down the back and… well, there could have been a better match. The straps at the back of the dress interfered with the necklace (and from the front as well) and it just takes away from the design. Maybe the jewelry was picked before the dress??

Most of the gold was found on dresses, but there were some touches of it in jewel form. Other than Jessica Chastain mentioned above, gold was also seen on Olivia Munn in Harry Winston, Nicole Kidman in Fred Leighton, Salma Hayek in Cindy Chao (in her hair), Catherine Zeta-Jones in Lorraine Schwartz, Jane Fonda in Chopard, and Naomie Harris in H. Stern, each of whom had a significant amount of gold on their dresses.

Special gold mention goes to Samantha Barks of Les Misérables who wore this stunning House of Waris ‘Light Emanating from the Heart’ necklace that featured a 14.67 carat oval diamond.

Kelly Rowland again wore black Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and joining her was Kelly Osborne in Norman Silverman earrings, Melissa McCarthy in Henri J. Sillam earrings, and Halle Berry in Adeler earrings.

One really had to go digging to find color on the red carpet. Most notable were Jennifer Hudson’s opal Sutra earrings. Also in color are Renee Zellweger with a Van Cleef & Arpels ruby bracelet, Marcia Gay Harden in John Hardy, Fan Bingbing in Chopard rubies and Jenna Dewan in Irene Neuwirth opals.

Zoe Saldana stood apart with some rarely seen pearls and lots of rings, including a diamond snake, from Neil Lane, reminiscent of Rihanna’s look at the Grammys (also by Neil Lane).

I was expecting more color on the red carpet given that there was a good amount of it in the lead-up to the Oscars, but that’s the fun of it… you just never know!

Legendary Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer passed away, days shy of his 105th birthday, on December 5, 2012. Proving that it’s never too late to start, he collaborated with Brazillian jewelers H. Stern at the age of 103 on a collection that reflected his favored organic and sensual style.

Designs were created from Niemeyer sketchs and inspiration from his buildings, resulting in simple and beautiful pieces that became instant classics. The yellow and white gold with diamond pieces are still available from H. Stern.
