2013 Pantone Color of the Year: Emerald

The Pantone Color Institute announced earlier this month that 17-5641 Emerald has been selected as the 2013 Color of the Year. Described in the press release, emerald is “sophisticated and luxurious” as well as “the color of growth, renewal and prosperity”. Anyone who has looked at a stunning emerald stone would certainly agree. This announcement is likely to unleash a wave of emerald in fashion, home design, beauty and accessories as was seen with the 2012 color Tangerine Tango. It is also likely to herald a significant increase in the use of both emeralds and other green stones in jewelry, perhaps putting a slight dent in the ever popular blue stone market. 2012 Auction Round-Up

The uncertain economic climate of 2012 did little to slow down jewelry auctions this year with records being set across the board.

At Christie’s Magnificent Jewels auction in Geneva on November 13, the showpiece item was the Archduke Joseph Diamond, which set the world auction record for a colorless diamond (US$21,500,000) and for price per carat of a colorless diamond (US$280,000).

Druzy

Lots of sparkle without the high cost of polished gemstones.

You might be seeing a bit more of druzy (also known as drusy) jewelry around in 2013. The high impact stone is being used in both costume and fine jewelry to great effect.
